A Perfectly Good Plane

I have plans to go leaping out of a perfectly good plane this summer. This year. Some time in the future. After all, an old friend gave me a voucher for a free tandem jump.

Don't get me wrong, I've been 'diving before. Here's part one of what I wrote in my livejournal back on May 24, 2004. Actually, it's written in five parts, so I'll break it down a bit.

This is 'hotdog'.

If you've taken as many plane trips as I have, you know that if you take a one hour plane trip, known as a 'hop', you get barely above the clouds before you're headed earthbound again. Those are my favorite because there's not really any time to get bored and the earth is really truly gorgeous from that height. It looks like a puzzle or a painting. Perfect and serene and peaceful.

This is going to come out, I think, as rather disjoined and sporadic, because my mind is still reeling from yesterday. I leapt from a plane to celebrate my birth anniversary. With Carly and Jacque, we three leapt from a plane, yes, a perfectly good plane, to plummet towards the earth. We leapt from above the clouds.

. . . .HOTDOG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At some point, in the journey to the Center, someone pointed out that we were laughing loudly and nervously at anything anyone said. As an example, Jacque said, "Yeah, like, 'Hotdog!' HAHAHAHAAAA!" We all, of course, laughed more loudly and nervously and "Hotdog." quickly because our code word for "I'm panic'ing!" Needless to say, there were many expressions of 'Hotdog!' throughout the day, followed by laughter or at least a nervous smile flashed, and we had our tandem jumpers yelling 'Hotdog!' by the end of the day.
