NYU's Response

I won't beat around the bush, I was cut. Quickly. Immediately following the technique class. And I couldn't be happier.

The day before the NYU audition, I pumped an NYU alum for information. She used to help with the auditions, so she knew more than most. One of the most disturbing factors was that there is no assistanceship position available the first year of the MFA program - only the second. Which means no money. Also, there would be no time to have a job more than on the weekends.

I won't bore you relating the severe nightmares I had that night trying to figure out how I would be able to attend NYU without going into further debt. Think indentured servatude and selling my soul. Bad joojoo.

The audition? A ballet class. And I was doing fine until we did adagio (slow movement) in the center. My feet were literally cramping because I couldn't feel the floor. Ballet shoes are teh suck. Okay, so there was also some modern stuff at the end, but then it was too late - I had already proven I am not the ballerina I used to be.

Additionally, I already have one acceptance and one waitlist. I'm already stressing out from that decision, why add another to the factor?

Had I made it through the entire audition, I still may not have made it, but wouldn't find out until mid-April. AND it would have been dark outside. Can I tell you how cold and windy it was in NYC this past weekend? Harsh.

So my biggest problem at being cut on Friday, really, was keeping the huge grin off of my face and not fainting with relief at not having to become a stripper to make my way through college.
